#Atividade (04): Cameron delivers response to Isis hostage threat at PMQs

We’ve got the first PMQs* since the summer recess today and it will be dominated by what David Cameron has to say about the government’s response to Isis’s latest beheading of an American hostage, and its threat to target a British hostage next. David Cameron will set out the British government’s response to the threat to the life of a British man by Islamic State (Isis) at prime minister’s questions after an emergency meeting of Cobra on Wednesday morning.

Government sources said Cameron had known of the threat to the man’s life for many months so it will not change his short-term calculations, but the revelation of the threat to the public in the gruesome Isis video is likely to put more pressure on the UK to join the air strikes that the Americans have been conducting for weeks against Isis in northern Iraq.

Obama is under intense domestic pressure to be more decisive and is considering whether to extend the air strikes to Syria, the original base of Isis.

#Atividade (02): Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey has announced two US shows – in a Hollywood cemetery.

The singer will play two dates next month (October 17 and 18) at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, which according to its website is the "final resting place to more of Hollywood’s founders and stars than anywhere else on earth." It also regularly hosts gigs.

The two dates are the first to be announced by the singer since she pulled out of a string of European appearances earlier this month due to illness.

She cancelled her scheduled appearance in BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge and subsequently two private concerts for Virgin Radio listeners in Paris. A statement from the singer's label Polydor/Universal read: "For medical reasons independent of our will, the artist has been forced to cancel all promotional activities planned in Europe over the coming days."

Lana Del Rey released her second album 'Ultraviolence' in June, which was the follow-up to her 2012 debut 'Born To Die'. Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys produced a number of tracks on 'Ultraviolence' including lead single 'West Coast'.

#Atividade (01): Biometrics - The Future of the Password

Usually, whenever anyone talks about biometrics, the first thing they think about are fingerprint scanners like those found on the latest crop of Apple and Android-based smartphones. This isn’t a new concept: a 2003 paper from the SANS Institute goes into significant detail about the notion. The idea even dates all the way back to the 1980s, when it was deployed at some high-security data center entry doors. I can recall using several of these to gain access to the various data centers that I have visited over the years.

The latest fingerprint scanners are great for protecting general access to your phone. But that’s pretty much it. Apple doesn’t have any interfaces for individual apps on that phone, and even when they do develop this, it will still be some time before they can be implemented. Certainly, Android (and Samsung specifically) seems to have the jump on iOS when it comes to this particular form of biometrics for the time being.

And there are other Minority Report-style biometrics devices that are in the works. One idea is to scan your eyeball, and vendors such as EyeLock are trying to deliver lower-cost models that can be more generally deployed for the public. And not all eyeball scanners are alike: this post explores the common differences and talks about the different elements of the eye that are actually scanned and calculated.
